Risk-Based Approach

Optimizing inspections to enhance asset safety and value

Assessing marine and offshore asset safety and efficiency was traditionally done based on inspection, maintenance and repair regimes. Applied to an entire asset, these prescriptions can easily become costly and time-consuming. Today’s marine and offshore owners and operators need optimized inspection efforts to ensure they get the best value for their assets over time.

BV Solutions M&O’s Risk-Based Inspection (RBI) methodology begins with defining all potential adverse events. Once identified, we determine both their likelihood and potential consequences from economic, safety and environmental perspectives. We then elaborate on the most efficient strategy to mitigate those risks to an acceptable level. Developed in close partnership with our clients, this transparent approach mitigates risk while improving on efficiencies and reducing costs over time.

Our Added-value

Our RBI methodologies enable asset operators to plan, execute and follow through on their inspection efforts

By determining the likelihood of events and consequences, efforts can be focused on the most efficient adverse event mitigation strategy

Enabling client ownership

BV Solutions M&O creates methodologies alongside its clients and provides expertise to assist in developing customized inspection programs. We work in close collaboration with clients to ensure buy-in of the methodology, so they can take on full ownership of the implementation.

Risk-Based Approach

Enhanced safety through risk mitigation

The inspection plans that are developed in partnership with our clients ensure an efficient use of time and budget on the areas of an asset that need the most attention. We work with our marine and offshore clients to identify risk parameters and acceptable risk levels, as well as which areas face the highest potential in terms of adverse events. In this way, safety is always a main focus over less critical potential adverse events.

Unique statistical approach

Unique statistical approach

Our quantitative methodology leverages statistical simulations of structural conditions. With traditional regimes, visual inspections are focused on “worst condition areas.” This is indeed not representative of the total area subject to inspection.

With the input of a representative sample and statistical analysis, we can determine whether the tank needs to be opened for inspection, and if so, which areas need to be focused on.

Optimization is key

Optimization is key

We focus on optimization to maximize overall asset value. To maintain equipment, operators must budget capital and operating expenditures. We work with clients to optimize their usage of the asset as well as the OPEX to get the most value out of the asset during its lifetime.
