Doriane Causeur

Meet our team

Doriane Causeur

Manager of Measurement and Propulsion Department

Doriane has always enjoyed sailing. Combining her love for the sea with her engineering studies, a career in maritime hydrodynamic and structural engineering was a perfect fit. After completing her studies in advanced naval hydrodynamics, Doriane joined the team in 2015. Since then, her career path at BV Solutions M&O has spanned several roles and teams.

Just back from her maternity leave, Doriane is settling into a new professional role as the Manager of the Measurement and Propulsion Department. She now tells us about her BV Solutions M&O journey.

What is your new role?

I initially specialized in hydrodynamics, but since joining BV Solutions M&O I first moved into the structural team as deputy of the structural department. At the beginning of 2023, I was promoted to the position of Manager of the Measurement and Propulsion Department.

I really appreciate this community that I’m a part of. It’s collaborative, friendly and supportive of your development. That combination of teamwork and conviviality is something that motivates me every day.

What do you find most exciting about your job?

I love having the opportunity to see the maritime field develop in real time. In just the last year, you can really see momentum building toward a more sustainable industry – more projects on wind-assisted propulsion, decreasing underwater radiated noise, and more! While a few years ago, we were mainly just conducting a lot of research projects, now we’re starting to see more interest from shipowners in practical applications.

I also enjoy having the opportunity to work on really large-scale projects. My biggest job to date was a one-year 2-D and 3-D structural and fatigue analysis project with a team of five other engineers. Although structural engineering was not my primary field, I grew in confidence over the course of the project, and the client was pleased with the results.

Could you tell us how you found the return to work after maternity leave?

I took eight months of leave, which was longer than usual in France, but it was important for me to have that time with my daughter. My colleagues did a great job of handling our projects while I was away, so I had nothing to worry about. Coming back was its own particular challenge, as I had been promoted to a new role – but we began discussing how it would work last September. The team is really super, which has certainly helped the transition.

What words of encouragement would you give to female engineers at the start of their careers?

Well, although in my experience the ratio of men and women in the profession has not changed much, I would hope that in 2023 no one will hold themselves back because of their gender.

Engineering should be a totally normal career choice for anyone. The right company will be helpful and support its employees, help them grow and develop the way they want.

Looking to the future, or the near-term, what are your career goals?

I want to focus my energy on developing the team I’m now leading, to help it thrive. That is really my main goal at the moment. But in the future, I want to pursue more of a sustainability-focused role. Long-term, I would like to be part of projects that move the maritime sector along in its sustainability journey
